Everyone knows hummus is massively underrated. It’s a dip worthy of all sorts of foods – and it deserves to be celebrated.

And so, obviously, we were super excited when we found out there is going to be an actual hummus festival, for people who just can’t get enough of the chickpea dip.

The hummus festival is being hosted by the University of Manchester’s Lebanese Society.

It’ll take place in the Students’ Union of the university, from 10am to 4pm on 1st March.

According to the event’s description, the festival will give hummus-lover a chance to dig in to some ‘authentic Lebanese hummus’ with ‘exciting events’.

It reads: ‘You’ll be tasting and choosing the best among a range of hummus. You can buy a pot of whichever one you choose for just £1!’

Each hummus will be vegan and healthy, with hummus wraps being provided for those who fancy a quick meal over a snack.

The festival will be open to both students and members of the public, and will host a range of performances and events – including a blindfolded hummus tasting competition.

So far, according to the event page, 511 people are already interesting in going to it.

Laura Najem, founder of the University of Manchester Lebanese Society told the Manchester Evening News: ‘I decided to create the Lebanese Society because I felt like we needed to bring Lebanese students together to make them feel at home in Manchester.

‘The Lebanese Society committee did some research and noticed that there was a great demand for hummus between students.

‘However, the hummus that students buy at local stores does not have the same taste as the authentic one that is made back home in Lebanon. Therefore, this was how the idea for hummus festival was developed!’

She added: ‘We want other students to really get to experience home made hummus and also get a taste of other variants of the authentic hummus recipe.’
